Business-class 14-inch laptop

The Dell Latitude 14-7490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90GHz with 8MB cache. It comes with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed and includes 16GB of DDR4 system memory. A 512GB SATA solid-state drive provides the primary storage. Integrated Intel HD Graphics drives the 1366 x 768 non-touch LED display.

Connectivity and input features

Three USB 3.0 ports and one HDMI output handle external displays and peripherals. Audio ports and a built-in webcam support conferencing. The keyboard is non-backlit. The specification lists a maximum supported memory of 16GB, so the installed capacity cannot be increased.

Fixed 16GB memory limit

The system memory is capped at 16GB DDR4 with no headroom for upgrades. Buyers who need more memory for virtualisation or large datasets should consider a different platform. The SATA SSD and integrated graphics also set expectations for storage throughput and graphical workloads.

Questions about this item

Can the 16 GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later?

The 16 GB DDR4 memory matches the maximum supported capacity of 16 GB, so no further upgrade is possible.

What limits performance first during sustained heavy workloads?

The i7-8650U quad-core processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics share thermal headroom, so extended loads will hit thermal throttling before the 512 GB SATA SSD saturates.

How loud and hot does the laptop get when running all day?

The 14.0-inch chassis relies on passive and low-RPM active cooling; under continuous use the fan becomes audible and the keyboard deck warms noticeably while the 1366 x 768 display stays cool.
