Rugged 14" laptop for field work

The Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged is a 14.0-inch Full HD touchscreen laptop built to MIL-STD-810G and IP53 standards. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB SSD. The outdoor-viewable display reaches 1000 nit brightness and supports 10-finger touch with glove, water, or stylus input. Integrated 4G LTE keeps you connected on site.

Suited for mobile professionals in tough conditions

This machine suits engineers, surveyors, and first responders who need a durable, readable screen in direct sunlight and resistance to dust and water spray. Buyers who want a thin ultrabook for office-only use or who need a larger display for detailed CAD work should look at something else. The rugged chassis adds bulk compared to standard business notebooks.

Simple SSD access and standard Windows setup

A quick-release latch allows the M.2 PCIe SSD to be swapped without tools, making storage upgrades or data retrieval straightforward. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed, so the laptop is ready to join a domain or enroll in MDM immediately. The only common snag is ensuring the correct LTE APN settings are entered for your carrier before deploying to the field.

Questions about this item

Does the 1 TB M.2 PCIe SSD need any extra bracket or adapter to fit the quick-release slot?

The quick-release design accepts the M.2 PCIe drive directly; no additional bracket or adapter is required.

Will the 14" 1000-nit FHD touch panel still register input when I wear heavy work gloves?

Yes — the 10-finger PCAP layer is specified as glove-capable, so touch works with gloved hands.

How can I verify the 4G LTE module is active after first boot?

Open Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular; a signal strength indicator and carrier name confirm the modem is connected.
