Dell Latitude 5520 for professionals

The Dell Latitude 5520 is a 15.6 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5 1145G7 processor with four cores and eight threads. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The chassis includes HDMI, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and a microSD card reader. This configuration targets office workers and mobile professionals who need a reliable daily driver with modern connectivity.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the quad-core Tiger Lake CPU maintains its 2.6 GHz base frequency across all four cores while the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics share system memory. The 8GB DDR4 capacity and single NVMe drive define the practical ceiling for simultaneous applications and large dataset access. Thermal management in the 15.6 inch body allows the processor to hold performance longer than thinner ultraportables, though memory bandwidth remains the limiting factor for heavy multitasking.

Deciding specification: 8GB soldered memory

The 8GB DDR4 configuration is the single figure that determines suitability; the platform supports up to 32GB but the installed amount is fixed at purchase. Buyers who need more memory for virtual machines, large spreadsheets or creative suites must choose a different unit because this laptop cannot be upgraded after sale. The 256GB NVMe drive and FHD non-touch display are secondary considerations compared to this memory constraint.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Intel Core i5 1145G7 run during all-day workloads?

The quad-core Tiger Lake processor has an 8 MB cache and integrated Iris Xe graphics, so it handles typical office tasks without heavy thermal load.

Which peripherals must I already own to use the two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports and HDMI output?

You need Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C cables for the two USB-C ports and an HDMI cable for the single HDMI port to connect external displays or docks.

Will the 8 GB DDR4 memory and 256 GB NVMe SSD work smoothly with my existing 32 GB DDR4 modules and PCIe storage?

The system supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, so your 32 GB modules are compatible, and the M.2 NVMe slot accepts additional PCIe SSDs alongside the 256 GB drive.
