2019 Dell Latitude 7400 for mobile professionals

The 2019 Dell Latitude 7400 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need a lightweight Windows 11 Pro machine. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8665U quad-core processor with a 4.80 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 32GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The carbon fiber chassis keeps the starting weight at 1.36kg.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The slim profile measures 17.82mm at the front and 18.96mm at the back, limiting internal airflow space. The integrated graphics chip shares the cooling solution with the 1.9 GHz base processor. Under sustained loads the compact chassis will warm up and fan noise becomes audible. The 7.4mm barrel DC-in port supplies power for typical office workloads.

Thunderbolt 3 decides dock and display options

A single Thunderbolt 3 port handles Power Delivery and DisplayPort alternate mode for external monitors. This port also supports high-speed peripherals and docking stations. The laptop also provides HDMI 1.4, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a uSD 4.0 card reader and a universal audio jack. Buyers who need multiple Thunderbolt connections or a dedicated GPU should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB SSD into the Latitude 7400, and what step do people often miss?

The 256GB SSD is already installed from the factory. No user installation is required, and there is no step to miss because the drive comes configured with Windows 11 Pro.

What maintenance or replacement will the 32GB memory need later?

The 32GB memory is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded or replaced by the user. No routine maintenance is required for the memory itself.

What limit appears first on the i7-8665U during sustained heavy workloads?

The quad-core i7-8665U will hit its thermal and power limits before the 4.80 GHz turbo can be maintained across all cores for long periods.
