Portable business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7480 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need a compact Windows 11 Pro machine. Its Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor runs at 2.6 GHz with 4 MB L2 cache. The system includes 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD for everyday workloads.

Thermals and power

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles video output without a discrete GPU, keeping heat and noise low during typical office tasks. The 14.0 inch FHD non-touch display draws modest power, supporting longer battery life on the move. Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 provide connectivity without excessive drain.

Deciding specification

The 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD sets the storage ceiling; buyers who need more capacity must look elsewhere. A single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port and HDMI output cover external displays and docks, but only three USB 3.0 ports are available for peripherals. The Grade B LCD may show wear on keys or touchpad.

Questions about this item

How do I install a replacement SATA M.2 SSD in the Latitude 7480, and which step is commonly missed?

Remove the bottom cover, unscrew the single M.2 retaining screw, slide the 256GB SATA M.2 drive into the slot at the keyed angle, press flat, and replace the screw; the step often missed is reinstalling that tiny retaining screw before closing the case.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 need over time?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and not upgradeable, so no module maintenance is required; for the Intel HD Graphics 520, clean the fan vents annually and replace thermal paste on the CPU every few years to maintain cooling efficiency.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Core i7-6600U with Intel HD Graphics 520?

The dual-core 2.6GHz i7-6600U hits thermal throttling before the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 becomes a bottleneck, so sustained heavy workloads reduce clock speeds to manage heat within the slim chassis.
