Business-ready ultraportable

The Dell Latitude 7480 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who travel or meet clients regularly. It combines a durable chassis with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and Windows 10 Pro for immediate productivity. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles everyday visual tasks and external monitors via HDMI. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C adds high-speed peripheral expansion for docking or storage.

Thermals noise and power

The dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U runs at 2.6 GHz with a 4MB L2 cache, designed for high efficiency in a slim form factor. Its low thermal output allows quiet operation during typical office workloads such as document editing, web browsing and video calls. The 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD generates minimal heat compared to mechanical drives while delivering fast boot and load times. The 8GB DDR4 memory supports smooth multitasking without excessive power draw.

Upgrade path and fit

This unit replaces an older business laptop that lacks a fast NVMe drive, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity or a modern 1080p display. The jump is worth it for users who need quicker application launches, single-cable docking and reliable Gigabit Ethernet or 802.11 ac Wi-Fi on the move. It is not suited to buyers who want more storage capacity, a dedicated graphics processor for 3D work or a touchscreen for pen input. Builders needing user-upgradable memory or a second drive bay should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD in the Latitude 7480, and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert the 256GB NVMe drive into the M.2 slot at an angle, then secure it with the single retention screw. The step people skip is tightening that screw, which leaves the drive loose and unrecognised.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered to the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced. If capacity becomes a bottleneck, the only option is to use faster external storage via the Thunderbolt 3 port.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the Core i7-6600U?

The dual-core 2.6GHz processor hits thermal throttling first under continuous load, lowering clocks to manage heat. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares the same thermal envelope, so GPU tasks accelerate the slowdown.
