Travel-Ready Workstation

The Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen laptop built for professionals who move between desks and meeting rooms. Its quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor runs at 1.9 GHz with 8 MB cache, paired with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 2 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed for immediate deployment in managed environments.

Connectivity And Expansion

Three USB 3.0 ports handle existing peripherals while a single USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port with PowerShare adds charging flexibility for newer devices. An HDMI output drives external displays or projectors during presentations, and a microSD reader simplifies media transfer. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac wireless with Bluetooth 4.2 keep the system linked whether docked or roaming.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The 15 W processor and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 share a thermal envelope designed for steady office workloads rather than prolonged heavy compute. Under continuous multi-threaded tasks the system manages clocks to stay within its power limit, so performance settles at a sustainable level instead of peaking briefly. Fan noise remains low during typical business use, and the solid-state drive maintains consistent throughput without thermal throttling.

Questions about this item

Does the 15 W Intel Core i7-8650U throttle under long workloads?

The quad-core processor is rated at 15 W, so sustained heavy tasks will hit its thermal envelope and the chip will reduce clocks to stay within that limit.

How loud and hot does the Latitude 7490 get when it runs all day?

With a 15 W CPU and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, fan noise stays low and chassis warmth remains moderate during typical office use.

What cables or docks do I need to drive an external monitor from the USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port?

A USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter, or a USB-C dock with video support, is required because the port carries video but no cable is included.
