Latitude 7490 14-inch business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch Windows 10 Pro notebook built around an Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 anti-glare display. Connectivity includes HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort over USB Type-C, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (one with PowerShare), Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. A 720p webcam, SD 4.0 card reader and external uSIM slot complete the feature set.

Suited to mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits mobile professionals who need a full complement of legacy ports — HDMI 1.4, RJ45 and multiple USB-A sockets — on a 14-inch chassis running Windows 10 Pro. Buyers who require a dedicated graphics processor, a touchscreen, a fingerprint reader or a higher-resolution display should look elsewhere. The integrated graphics and shared video memory also limit suitability for 3D rendering, modern gaming or colour-critical creative work.

16 GB DDR4 soldered plus one free slot

The system ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory installed across two slots, with a maximum supported capacity of 32 GB. This specification determines whether the laptop can handle your multitasking workload or if a model with higher memory headroom is required.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the Latitude 7490 and which slot do people forget?

The laptop has two DDR4 slots supporting up to 32 GB total. Remove the base cover, insert the module at 45 degrees into the empty slot, then press down until the clips click. The lower slot under the motherboard is often missed.

Which part will need replacement first on this 7490?

The lithium-ion battery is the only consumable component listed. It is rated to hold a charge but will lose capacity over time; plan to swap it when run-time drops below your needs.

What thermal limit appears first during a long compile on the i5-8250U?

The integrated UHD Graphics 620 shares 16 GB of system memory and has no dedicated VRAM, so sustained GPU compute hits the shared-memory bandwidth ceiling before the CPU throttles.
