Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9 GHz with 8 MB cache. It comes with 16 GB DDR4 memory, a 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD and Windows 11 Pro 64-bit. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, plus a webcam and microSD reader.

Mobile professionals needing one fast drive

This configuration suits people who travel or meet clients and want a single 1 TB NVMe SSD for quick boot and file access without carrying external storage. The Thunderbolt 3 port allows dock or monitor expansion. Buyers who need a second internal drive, a discrete GPU, a touchscreen or more than 16 GB of memory should look at other models.

1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD decides fit

The 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is the specification that determines whether this unit matches the workload. It provides the capacity and speed for large local datasets, but the slot is occupied, so no additional NVMe drive can be added internally. If the workflow requires multiple separate volumes or a larger single drive, this laptop will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How hot does the Core i7-8650U get when it runs at 4.2 GHz all day?

The quad-core processor has a 1.9 GHz base speed and can reach 4.2 GHz Turbo Boost; sustained loads will raise temperatures until the internal cooling system balances heat output.

What is the fan noise like during continuous Thunderbolt 3 transfers?

Thunderbolt 3 shares the USB Type-C port and can drive high throughput; the cooling fan ramps up to dissipate the extra power draw, producing audible but typical office-level noise.

Which display cable do I need to use the HDMI port on this Latitude 7490?

A standard HDMI cable connects the built-in HDMI port to any monitor, projector or television that accepts a 1920 x 1080 signal.
