Latitude 7490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8MB cache. It comes with 32GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB M.2 SATA SSD running Windows 10 Home. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.

Mobile professionals needing legacy OS

This configuration suits mobile professionals who need a lightweight 14-inch chassis with abundant memory and a full complement of ports for docking, external displays and wired networking. The pre-installed Windows 10 Home environment supports legacy enterprise applications. Buyers who require Windows 11 Pro out of the box, a touchscreen panel, discrete graphics or a newer processor generation should consider other models.

32GB DDR4 memory capacity

The 32GB DDR4 memory capacity is the specification that determines whether this laptop can handle your workload. It allows extensive multitasking, large spreadsheet manipulation and smooth virtual-machine operation without paging to the 1TB M.2 SATA SSD. If your daily tasks regularly exceed this memory ceiling, you will need a platform that supports higher RAM limits.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0 inch chassis use a standard VESA mount or a proprietary bracket?

The Latitude 7490 is a clamshell laptop with no VESA mounting points; it is designed for desk or lap use only.

What is the correct way to reinstall Windows 10 Home on the 1TB M.2 SATA SSD after a drive wipe?

Boot from a USB recovery drive, select the M.2 SATA SSD as the target, and let the installer handle partitioning; do not enable RAID mode in BIOS.

Which user-replaceable parts will need attention after several years of daily use?

The internal battery and the M.2 SATA SSD are the only field-replaceable components; memory is soldered and not upgradeable.
