Core i7-8650U ultraportable

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8MB cache. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB M.2 SATA SSD running Windows 10 Pro. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.

Mobile professionals needing legacy OS

This unit suits travelling staff who rely on Windows 10 Pro for established line-of-business applications, dock via Thunderbolt 3 or HDMI, and value the built-in webcam and microSD reader for client meetings. Buyers who require a newer supported operating system, discrete graphics for 3D workloads, a touchscreen, or more than 8GB of memory should consider other configurations.

Soldered 8GB DDR4 limit

The memory is not upgradeable, so the 8GB ceiling is fixed for the life of the device. If your workflow regularly exceeds that capacity — heavy multitasking, virtual machines or large datasets — this chassis cannot accommodate it.

Questions about this item

How hot or loud does the Core i7-8650U get when the laptop runs all day?

The 1.9 GHz quad-core processor has a 4.2 GHz turbo boost; under sustained load the fan will spin up but the 14.0 inch chassis keeps noise at office-friendly levels.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock; the port also accepts standard USB-C devices, so existing USB-C drives or monitors will work.

Will my older USB 3.0 accessories work with the three USB 3.0 ports?

Yes, the three USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible, so older USB 2.0 and 3.0 mice, keyboards and drives connect without adapters.
