Dell Latitude 7490 touchscreen laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop with a Full HD touchscreen. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 1.90GHz base speed and 8MB L2 cache. The system includes 8GB DDR4 memory and a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Suits mobile professionals needing touch input

This configuration suits users who want pen or finger interaction on a 1920 x 1080 display and 2000GB of solid-state capacity. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles office work and video playback only.

2TB NVMe PCIe SSD decides fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the 2TB NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. It provides extensive space for large project files, local databases and media libraries without external drives. If your workflow relies on cloud storage or a smaller drive, a different capacity would be more appropriate.

Questions about this item

Does the USB-C port on the Dell Latitude 7490 carry video and data simultaneously?

The USB Type-C port supports data transfer and DisplayPort alternate mode, so it can drive an external monitor while moving files at the same time.

What physical drive size and keying does the 2TB SSD use in this Latitude 7490?

The 2TB drive is an M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe module; it fits the single M.2 slot keyed for PCIe x4 and is held by one screw.

Which driver must be installed first after a clean Windows 10 Pro load so the touchscreen works on the 7490?

Install the Intel chipset driver package before the HID touchscreen driver; skipping the chipset step leaves the touch input unrecognised by the OS.
