Target user and purpose

The Dell Latitude E5420 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for everyday office work and study. Its Intel Core i7 2nd Gen dual-core processor at 2.20GHz with 6 MB L3 cache and 8 GB DDR3 memory handles documents, web browsing and video calls. The 1TB SSD provides ample space for files and applications. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed. The integrated DVD-RW drive reads and writes optical media.

Display and graphics limits

The 14.0 inch HD+ LED panel runs at 1366 x 768 resolution without touch input. Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics drive the internal screen and external monitors through VGA and HDMI outputs. This configuration suits standard productivity and video playback but is not designed for modern 3D gaming, GPU compute workloads or colour-critical creative tasks that demand higher pixel density or discrete graphics memory.

Compatibility checks before purchase

Verify that your existing peripherals connect via VGA, HDMI, USB or the built-in card reader. The laptop includes Gigabit Ethernet and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless for wired and Wi-Fi networks. RAM uses DDR3 technology; maximum supported capacity is 16 GB if you plan an upgrade. The TPM 1.2 security chip enables basic hardware encryption features. Ensure your software runs on Windows 10 Home or budget for a Windows 11 Pro upgrade.
