Purpose-built work laptop

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0 inch FHD business notebook powered by a dual-core Intel Core i7-5600U processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.20 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240GB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed on the 64-bit architecture.

Buyer fit

This unit suits professionals who need a reliable 14.0 inch non-touch display at 1920 x 1080 resolution for office applications, web browsing and video calls using the integrated webcam. The Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles basic visual tasks only; buyers who want more storage than 240GB or require discrete graphics performance for creative workloads should look at something else.

Deciding specification

The 8GB DDR3 memory is expandable to a maximum of 16 GB across two slots, which determines whether the system can handle heavier multitasking or virtual machines. The fixed 240GB SATA SSD and integrated graphics are the other fixed limits that define the use case.

Questions about this item

Is the 8 GB DDR3 enough or should I upgrade to the 16 GB maximum?

The system ships with 8 GB DDR3 across two slots and supports up to 16 GB total; adding another 8 GB module will give the full capacity if you run heavier workloads.

What does the 2.60 GHz base and 3.20 GHz turbo mean for everyday tasks?

The dual-core i7-5600U runs at 2.60 GHz normally and can boost to 3.20 GHz for short bursts, so web browsing, office apps and video playback stay responsive while heavier loads trigger the higher speed briefly.

How does the 2.5-inch SATA interface affect the 240 GB SSD performance?

The 240 GB SSD connects via a 2.5-inch SATA link, so read and write speeds are limited to the SATA interface maximum rather than faster PCIe rates.
