Ultrabook for enterprise mobility

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460s is a 14.0 inch ultrabook built for business users who need a durable, lightweight machine. It runs on an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor with 3 MB cache and a base speed of 2.4 GHz. The system includes 12GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1920 x 1080 LED display.

Upgrade from older dual-core ultraportables

This unit replaces ageing ultraportables that struggle with modern multitasking and solid-state speed. The jump is worthwhile when moving from a mechanical drive or 4GB of memory to the 512GB SSD and 12GB DDR4 configuration. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed, with a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path available. The carbon-fiber-reinforced lid and magnesium chassis meet MIL-STD 810G test standards.

Handles office workloads and light content

The 12GB DDR4 and 512GB SSD comfortably run productivity suites, video conferencing and web-based apps. Integrated graphics share system memory, so 3D rendering, modern gaming or heavy video editing will hit limits quickly. The 14.0 inch 1920 x 1080 non-touch screen supports wide viewing angles. Connectivity covers three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet, Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260, an SD card reader and a SIM card slot.

Questions about this item

What size M.2 SSD slot does the T460s use for its 512GB drive?

The laptop has a single M.2 slot that holds the included 512GB SSD; any replacement must match the M.2 form factor.

Which screw secures the bottom cover so I can reach the M.2 SSD and memory?

Remove the five Torx screws on the base, lift the cover carefully, then unscrew the single M.2 retention screw before sliding the drive out.

When will the soldered 4GB memory and the removable 8GB DDR4 module need replacement?

The 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM can be swapped later; the 4GB soldered portion cannot be upgraded, so total capacity stays at 12GB.
