Business Ultrabook with Dual SSD Storage

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14-inch business laptop built around a 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor. It ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory in a dual-channel configuration and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. The 1280 x 720 HD LED display and integrated Intel HD Graphics handle everyday office workloads and video conferencing via the built-in webcam.

Upgrade from Single-Drive or HDD Systems

This unit replaces laptops that rely on a single mechanical hard drive or a lone low-capacity SSD by pairing a 128 GB mSATA boot drive with a 1 TB 2.5-inch SSD for data. The jump is worth it when you need faster boot times and application launches without sacrificing local storage capacity for large document libraries or offline media.

Limits of the HD Display and Integrated Graphics

The 14.0-inch panel tops out at 1280 x 720 resolution, so multi-window workflows feel cramped and external monitors above 1080p will not gain extra desktop space from this output. Integrated graphics share system memory and cannot accelerate modern 3D applications or hardware video encoding beyond basic playback, restricting the machine to 2D productivity tasks.

Questions about this item

What are the dimensions and form factor of the 1TB SSD so I know it fits the 2.5in bay?

The 1TB SSD is a 2.5in drive that installs in the standard internal bay.

How do I install the 128GB mSATA SSD and what step is commonly missed?

Insert the mSATA card into the dedicated slot on the motherboard at a slight angle then press down and secure it with the retention screw; the step often missed is fastening that screw.

Can the 8GB DDR3 memory be upgraded later and what is the module layout?

The system uses two 4GB DDR3 SODIMM modules occupying both slots; to increase capacity you must replace both modules with higher-capacity DDR3 SODIMMs.
