Purpose-built Ultrabook

The Dell Latitude E7470 is a 14.0 inch FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory and a new 240GB SATA SSD, ready for immediate deployment. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed on the 1920 x 1080 non-touch display.

Fit and limits

This unit suits mobile professionals who need a lightweight 14 inch chassis with a business-grade keyboard and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 for standard office workloads. Buyers who want more storage than 240GB, a dedicated GPU for creative rendering, a touchscreen interface, or memory beyond the 16GB ceiling should look at alternative configurations.

Deciding spec

The single specification that decides fit is the 240GB SATA SSD capacity; it determines whether the operating system, applications and active project files fit without external drives. The 8GB DDR4 baseline handles typical multitasking, while the dual-core i7-6600U provides responsive performance for document-heavy workflows on the 14.0 inch FHD panel.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.60 GHz Intel Core i7-6600U throttle down once it hits its 3.40 GHz turbo under a long compile?

The dual-core processor runs at a base of 2.60 GHz and can reach 3.40 GHz turbo; sustained loads will be limited by the laptop's cooling capacity.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel after a full workday?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 keeps heat modest, but the slim 14.0 inch chassis means the fan will spin up noticeably during extended heavy use.

Does the 8 GB DDR4 stick leave a free slot so I can add another module myself?

Yes, the board has two DDR4 slots and supports up to 16 GB, so one slot remains open for an upgrade.
