Business desktop with Core i5-2400

The Dell OptiPlex 790 desktop uses an Intel Core i5-2400 running at 3.10GHz with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 256GB SSD. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and a DVD-ROM drive is fitted. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles display output. Four front USB ports are available for peripherals.

Upgrade from older office PCs

This unit replaces ageing desktops that still rely on mechanical hard drives and less memory. The solid-state drive cuts boot and application load times compared with a traditional HDD. The jump is worth it when daily workloads involve web apps, document editing and light multitasking on a tight budget.

Simple drop-in deployment

No internal assembly is required; connect power, display and input devices then power on. The DDR3 memory uses standard DIMM slots if extra capacity is needed later. Buyers who need discrete graphics, additional drive bays or a smaller form factor should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What desktop-case form factor does the OptiPlex 790 DT use?

The OptiPlex 790 DT is a standard desktop tower that fits on a desk or floor and accepts full-height expansion cards.

How is the 256 GB SSD installed, and what step is often missed?

The SSD connects to a SATA port and mounts in a 3.5-inch drive bay; the step often missed is securing it with screws so it cannot vibrate loose.

What memory type and speed will a future upgrade need?

Any added memory must be DDR3 modules; the board has four slots and currently holds 8 GB.
