Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower

The Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built around an Intel 2nd Gen Quad-Core i5-2400 processor running at 3.10 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256 GB 2.5-inch SSD, a DVD±RW drive, and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed. A USB keyboard, USB mouse, and WiFi USB adapter are included in the package.

Home office users and students seeking

This system suits home office users and students who need a complete Windows 10 desktop with an SSD for quick boot times and integrated Gigabit Ethernet for wired networking. Buyers who want more storage capacity or a dedicated graphics card for gaming should look at other configurations.

256 GB 2.5-inch SSD storage capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 256 GB 2.5-inch solid-state drive, which provides the operating system volume and primary application space. If your workload requires a larger single drive or a different drive form factor, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How loud does the Mini Tower get when the i5-2400 runs at 3.40 GHz Turbo Boost for hours?

The chassis uses a standard Dell thermal design; under continuous Turbo Boost the fan spins up to an audible level but the CPU stays within its thermal limits.

Do I need to supply my own DDR3 memory modules to reach the 8 GB already installed?

No, the system ships with 8 GB of DDR3 fitted in the 240-pin DIMM slots, so no extra memory is required for it to operate.

Will my older PCI expansion cards fit in the OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower?

The Mini Tower case provides full-height PCI and PCIe slots, so most legacy PCI cards can be installed alongside the integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000.
