Compact business desktop with hexa-core i5

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around an Intel Core i5-8500 processor with six cores running up to 4.10 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 UDIMM memory and a 2.5-inch 128 GB solid-state drive. Windows 11 Pro, a DVD-ROM drive, USB keyboard, USB mouse and a USB Wi-Fi/BT dongle are included.

Upgrade path from dual-core or 8 GB systems

Moving from a dual-core office PC or a machine limited to 8 GB of RAM brings a clear jump in multitasking headroom and responsiveness for typical business workloads. The six-core design and 32 GB of memory make the difference when several browser tabs, office suites and background services run together. Buyers who need more storage or a discrete graphics card should look elsewhere.

Limits of the integrated UHD 630 graphics

The Intel UHD Graphics 630 engine handles desktop compositing, video playback and light productivity apps without a separate card. It is not suited for modern 3D titles, GPU-accelerated rendering or multi-monitor arrays beyond basic office use. The SFF chassis and 65 W processor ceiling also restrict future graphics upgrades to low-profile, low-power options.

Questions about this item

What clearance does the 2.5" 128 GB SSD need inside the SFF chassis?

The 2.5 inch 128 GB SSD fits the standard 2.5 inch drive bay in the small form factor case; no extra clearance is required beyond the bay itself.

How is the USB WiFi dongle installed, and what step is often missed?

Plug the USB WiFi dongle into any free USB port, then install the driver from Windows Update; the step often missed is allowing Windows Update to finish before testing the connection.

What memory type and speed will I need when the 32 GB DDR4 requires replacement?

Replace with DDR4 UDIMM modules; the system uses 240 pin DDR4 memory, so any compatible DDR4 UDIMM will work.
