OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower desktop

This OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower desktop runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-2600 quad-core processor at 3.40 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. A 128 GB 2.5-inch SSD provides the boot drive and a DVD±RW drive handles optical media. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 drives the display outputs while Gigabit Ethernet and a USB Wi-Fi adapter give network connectivity. A USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Upgrade from older hard-drive systems

Replacing a mechanical hard drive with the 128 GB SSD cuts boot and application load times dramatically. The four-core i7-2600 delivers a clear step up from dual-core processors of the same era for multitasking and light content tasks. The jump is worth it when the current PC feels sluggish on everyday office work or web browsing and the budget favours a compact tower with a fresh Windows 10 Pro licence.

Suited to office and study tasks

This configuration suits students, home-office users and small-business workstations that need reliable document, email and browser performance with a valid Windows 10 Pro installation. Buyers who want more storage than 128 GB or who need discrete graphics for CAD, video editing or gaming should look at something else. The four memory slots are already populated so a memory increase means replacing modules rather than adding them.
