Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower Desktop

This Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower desktop is a new system built for everyday office and home use. It runs on an Intel 2nd Gen i7-2600 quad-core processor at 3.40 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Storage combines a 2.5" 512 GB SSD with a 3.5" 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed with a certificate of authenticity. A keyboard and mouse are included.

Suits general office tasks and light multitasking

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and 265 W power supply limit this machine to basic display output and low-power components. Buyers who need dedicated graphics performance for gaming or rendering should look elsewhere. The Mini Tower case and DDR3 memory platform also restrict future expansion compared to newer form factors. No monitor is included in the package.

265 W power supply defines upgrade limits

The 265 W unit restricts the graphics cards and additional drives that can be added without a power supply replacement. The motherboard uses 240-pin DDR3 slots with a maximum of 16 GB supported. Storage bays accept one 2.5" SSD and one 3.5" hard drive. Gigabit Ethernet and a USB wireless dongle provide network connectivity.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 8 GB or 16 GB DDR3 RAM option for this OptiPlex 790?

The 8 GB DDR3 configuration handles everyday multitasking well, while the 16 GB maximum allows more browser tabs, larger spreadsheets and smoother background tasks without slowing the i7-2600 processor.

What does the 3.90 GHz Turbo Boost mean for actual performance?

The Intel i7-2600 runs at 3.40 GHz base and can reach 3.90 GHz on active cores when thermal headroom allows, giving short bursts of extra speed for demanding single-threaded tasks.

How does the Gigabit Ethernet port limit my network speed?

The integrated Gigabit Ethernet caps wired transfers at 1 Gbps, so file copies and internet downloads cannot exceed that bandwidth even if your router or switch supports faster rates.
