Dell OptiPlex 990 SFF desktop computer

This Dell OptiPlex 990 Small Form Factor desktop computer is built for home office and student use. It runs on an Intel Quad-Core i7-2600 processor at 3.40 GHz with 64-bit architecture. The system includes 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1000 GB 3.5" SATA hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed with a USB keyboard and mouse provided.

DDR3 memory and SATA storage limits

The desktop uses DDR3 240-pin DIMM modules and the supplier notes configurations of 4 GB, 8 GB, or a maximum of 16 GB of RAM. Storage relies on a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive interface with the included 1 TB drive installed. Graphics are handled by integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 rather than a discrete card. The Small Form Factor case restricts internal expansion space for additional drives or full-height cards.

4 GB DDR3 starting memory decides suitability

With 4 GB of DDR3 RAM installed, this system suits light productivity, web browsing and basic multitasking. Buyers who need more memory for heavier workloads must plan an upgrade to 8 GB or 16 GB using compatible DDR3 modules. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and SFF chassis mean this is not for users requiring discrete graphics performance or extensive internal expansion.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB DDR3 option?

The system ships with 4 GB of DDR3 installed. The motherboard supports up to 16 GB total, so 8 GB or 16 GB upgrades will improve multitasking headroom for heavier workloads.

How does the 3.40 GHz i7-2600 perform in everyday use?

The quad-core i7-2600 runs at 3.40 GHz base and can reach 3.80 GHz turbo, giving responsive performance for office applications, web browsing and light content creation.

What does the SATA interface mean for the 1 TB hard drive?

The 3.5" 1000 GB drive connects via SATA, limiting its maximum transfer rate to the SATA standard used by this platform.
