Dell OptiPlex 790/990 Mini Tower

This desktop computer uses an Intel 2nd Gen i5-2400 quad-core processor at 3.10 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. It fits student or home-office users who need a ready-to-run Windows 10 Pro system in a compact mini-tower case.

Dual-drive storage with DVD-RW and USB Wi-Fi

A 128 GB solid-state drive holds the operating system for quick boot times while a 1 TB hard drive adds bulk capacity for files. The bundled DVD±RW drive reads and writes optical media, and a USB wireless dongle provides network connectivity without a cable.

Suited for everyday office tasks, not modern gaming

Buyers who need a basic productivity machine with legacy DDR3 memory and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 will find this configuration adequate. Those who require dedicated graphics, newer memory standards or higher multi-threaded performance should look at something else.

Questions about this item

Will the 128 GB SSD or the 1 TB hard drive need replacement first?

The 1 TB hard drive has moving parts and typically wears out before the 128 GB solid-state drive under normal use.

What limits sustained performance when the Intel i5-2400 runs at 3.40 GHz turbo?

The 265 W power supply and Mini Tower airflow limit how long the processor can hold 3.40 GHz under continuous load.

How loud and hot does the 265 W power supply get during all-day operation?

The 265 W supply runs a single fan that stays audible but moderate; case temperatures rise noticeably after several hours of full-load work.
