Half-height blade server with dual 24-core Xeon 8160 CPUs, 32GB DDR4 ECC memory, dual 960GB SATA SSDs and iDRAC9 Enterprise management
Installed Memory Size 32GB
SSD (Installed) 2 x 960GB SATA SSD
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for dense compute environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides 24 cores. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four modules and a Dell PERC H330 storage controller.
This configuration targets workloads that benefit from high core counts in a single half-height sled, such as virtualization clusters or private-cloud nodes. The installed memory of 32 GB is modest relative to the 1.5 TB maximum, so buyers planning large in-memory databases or heavy container densities will need to add DIMMs. The blade form factor also requires a compatible PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis, which is not included.
Storage is provided by two enterprise-grade 960 GB SATA solid-state drives connected to the H330 controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. This capacity and interface determine whether the server can hold the required working set or if additional drives must be sourced. The 10 Gb dual-port network daughter card (57810S-K) and iDRAC9 Enterprise complete the I/O and management baseline.
