2U rack server with a 10-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 8 GB DDR4, two 600 GB 15K SAS drives and an H330 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD 2 x 600GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes two 600 GB 15K SAS drives managed by a PERC H330 RAID controller. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and a DVD-ROM complete the base configuration.
This server fits teams running virtualised workloads that benefit from up to eight hot-plug 3.5-inch SAS or SATA bays and hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Buyers who need a second CPU populated, more than 8 GB of memory pre-installed, or 10 GbE networking included should evaluate other configurations. The single-socket layout also limits maximum memory capacity to the single-processor ceiling.
The installed PERC H330 controller provides 12 Gbps SAS connectivity and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight 3.5-inch drive bays. This determines both the maximum array performance and the drive types you can add later. If your workload demands a different RAID feature set or non-SAS storage interfaces, the controller choice makes this chassis unsuitable.

Other versions of this model
Fit the second Xeon into socket 2, then populate its 12 DIMM slots with matching DDR4 modules; the step often missed is adding memory for the new CPU so the system can POST.
The two 600 GB 15K SAS drives and the dual 750 W redundant power supplies are the moving or high-stress parts most likely to require replacement.
The dual 750 W redundant power supplies set the hard power ceiling; sustained loads that approach their combined output will trigger throttling or shutdown before other limits are reached.
