CPU Model Gold 5120
The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server built around four Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.2 GHz with 14 cores and can turbo to 3.2 GHz. The system ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 48 slots. It targets organisations that need dense compute for databases, virtualisation or real-time analytics in a compact rack footprint.
A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages the eight 2.5-inch drive bays, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management. The chassis includes ready rails and a front bezel for immediate rack integration.
Dual 1600 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver hot-swap redundancy for continuous operation. The 3U form factor allows airflow optimised for four-socket density while keeping acoustic levels suitable for standard data-centre aisles. Power draw scales with workload across the 56 total cores and memory subsystem, with the platinum units maintaining high efficiency across the load range.
