DELL PowerEdge R940 3U Rack Server 4x Xeon Gold 6130 2.1GHz 16-Core 512GB DDR4 H730P

Four-Socket Xeon Server

The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack-mount server system built for heavy multi-threaded workloads. Four Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors deliver 64 total cores at 2.10 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory fills 16 of 48 DIMM slots. The platform targets databases, virtualization and in-memory analytics that demand maximum core count in a compact chassis.

Suits High-Density Compute

This server suits organisations running licensed-per-core software where consolidating onto four sockets reduces licensing costs. The 48 memory slots and 6 TB maximum capacity support large in-memory datasets. Buyers who need GPU acceleration should look elsewhere because the 3U form factor and power budget do not accommodate full-length double-width accelerators. Workloads requiring more than eight 2.5-inch drive bays will need external storage or a different chassis.

PERC H730P RAID Controller

Storage is managed by a Dell PERC H730P 2 GB controller providing 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity with battery-backed cache. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for software-defined storage. Eight hot-swap 2.5-inch trays are included without drives. The controller choice determines which RAID levels and cache policies are available for the installed drives.
