Four-socket Xeon Gold server

The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server with four Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.6 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides 16 cores for a total of 64 cores across the system. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 16 DIMM slots. The chassis includes redundant 1600 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management, ready rails and a front bezel.

Database and virtualisation workloads

This server suits organisations running large databases, in-memory analytics or dense virtualisation clusters that benefit from four sockets and high core counts. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 2 GB battery-backed cache. Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays
