Mobile workstation for intensive workloads

The Dell Precision 5530 combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5. Dual storage provides a 512 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD. A 15.6-inch UHD touch display at 3840 x 2160 resolution covers 72% colour gamut. Windows 11 Pro is installed.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity limits

Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and one HDMI 2.0 output handle external displays and peripherals. The Thunderbolt 3 interface carries x4 PCIe lanes for high-speed storage or docks. HDMI 2.0 supports 4K output at 60 Hz. No other video or data interfaces are present on this chassis.

Upgrades from integrated graphics or smaller SSD

Replaces systems relying on integrated graphics for CAD, rendering or simulation tasks where the Quadro P1000 adds certified driver stability. The 2 TB SSD plus 512 GB M.2 combination removes the storage ceiling found on single-drive configurations. Buyers who need more than 4 GB video memory or more than 16 GB system memory should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 512 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD combination or a single larger drive?

This unit ships with both a 512 GB M.2 drive and a 2 TB SSD already installed, giving you fast boot space and a large secondary volume without any extra configuration.

What does the 3840 x 2160 UHD touchscreen mean for daily work?

The 15.6 inch panel shows four times the detail of Full HD, supports multi-touch input, and covers 72 percent color gamut for accurate creative work.

How does Thunderbolt 3 limit external GPU or dock bandwidth?

The Thunderbolt 3 port provides four lanes of PCIe, so an external GPU or high-speed dock can run at up to 40 Gbps, while the HDMI 2.0 output drives a 4K display at 60 Hz.
