Mobile Workstation 7730

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need a large display and dedicated graphics in a single chassis. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 4 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory targets CAD and 3D workflows. Buyers who need a smaller footprint or longer battery life should look elsewhere.

Thermals and Power

Dell describes a revolutionary cooling design intended to keep the hexa-core CPU and discrete GPU stable under sustained loads. The 6-core i7-8750H operates at a 2.20 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.10 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Power is supplied by the included Dell AC adapter. No decibel figures, surface temperatures or power-draw measurements are provided in the source data.

Connectivity and Extras

The chassis provides two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and an HDMI 2.0 output for external displays. A headphone and microphone combo jack handles audio. Integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support wireless peripherals. A 720p webcam is built in for video calls. The 72% colour gamut panel covers standard sRGB workflows but falls short of wide-gamut requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 4 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD in the Precision 7730, and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert the M.2 drive at an angle into the slot, secure it with the single screw, then reinstall the cover; the step often missed is tightening that screw so the drive stays seated.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered and not user-upgradable, so no routine replacement is required; if capacity becomes limiting, the only option is a system board swap.

What limit appears first on the Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 during sustained 3D workloads?

The 6 GB video memory fills before the GPU core reaches its thermal ceiling, forcing texture streaming to system RAM and lowering frame rates.
