Mobile workstation for CAD workflows

The Dell Precision 7730 combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 128 GB DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout of 256 GB plus 4 TB NVMe storage. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 video memory drives the 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed on this new silver chassis.

Step up from quad-core integrated graphics

Moving from a four-core CPU with integrated graphics to this six-core 2.20 GHz processor with Turbo up to 4.10 GHz and a discrete Quadro P3200 removes the bottleneck in large assemblies and rendering tasks. The jump is worth it when model complexity exceeds the memory or compute ceiling of a typical office laptop and project deadlines demand faster viewport interaction.

Sustained load on professional graphics

The Quadro P3200 delivers stable frame rates during extended CAD sessions thanks to driver optimisation for certified applications rather than short-burst gaming boosts. Thermal design keeps the hexa-core CPU near its rated clocks throughout long renders, while the 128 GB DDR4 pool prevents paging when multiple datasets remain open. Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 outputs support external displays without throttling the internal GPU.

Questions about this item

Will the 17.3 inch chassis accept standard 256 GB and 4 TB M.2 drives?

The laptop ships with a 256 GB M.2 drive and a 4 TB M.2 drive already installed in its dual M.2 slots.

How is the 128 GB DDR4 memory installed, and what mistake should I avoid?

The 128 GB DDR4 is factory-fitted across four SODIMM slots; do not attempt to add more modules because all slots are occupied.

When will the 6 GB GDDR5 Quadro P3200 graphics need replacement?

The Quadro P3200 is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced separately; only a full board swap would change the GPU.
