Mobile Workstation for CAD and Simulation

The Dell Precision 7730 7740 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It carries 64GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout of 256GB plus 4TB NVMe M.2 SSD storage. The NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6GB GDDR5 is optimised for computer-aided design and comparable to a GTX 1060. Windows 11 Pro is installed.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 Expand Desk Connectivity

Two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports and one HDMI 2.0 output let the machine drive external displays and high-speed peripherals without a dock. Three USB 3.0 ports and a headphone/microphone combo jack handle legacy accessories. The bundled Dell AC adapter keeps the system powered under sustained professional loads.

Silver Chassis with IPS Panel and 72% Color Gamut

The silver chassis houses a 17.3-inch FHD IPS display at 1920 x 1080 resolution with a 72% colour gamut and Premier Panel Guarantee. A non-touch screen suits precision pointer work. Buyers who need a touchscreen or a wider colour space for colour-critical proofing should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 256 GB M.2 drive or the 4 TB M.2 drive need replacing first?

Both drives are solid-state with no moving parts, so neither has a scheduled replacement interval; they will only need attention if a cell fails or capacity runs out.

Does the i7-8750H or the Quadro P3200 throttle first during long renders?

The six-core i7-8750H at 2.20 GHz base and 4.10 GHz boost typically reaches its thermal ceiling before the Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5, so CPU clocks drop first under continuous load.

How loud do the fans get when the laptop runs Windows 11 Pro all day?

The cooling system is described as revolutionary thermals; fans spin up under heavy GPU or CPU load but remain moderate during typical office work on the 17.3" FHD panel.
