Mobile workstation for demanding workloads

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need desktop-class performance in a portable chassis. It runs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 128 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD. The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 handles certified CAD and 3D applications. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed.

Sustained performance under load

The hexa-core i7-8750H operates at a 2.20 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.10 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost across its six cores and twelve threads. This architecture maintains higher clocks during extended rendering or simulation sessions compared to burst-only designs. The Quadro P3200 delivers stable frame rates in viewport-heavy workflows, with driver optimisation for professional software rather than gaming benchmarks. Thermal engineering supports consistent output without aggressive throttling during long compute tasks.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

Revolutionary thermals keep the chassis cool while the Quadro P3200 and six-core CPU share heat pipes under typical office or engineering loads. Fan noise stays low during standard productivity work such as documentation or video calls. The 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 with 72 percent colour gamut draws modest power, helping battery life during mobile use. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 outputs drive external displays without spinning fans faster.

Questions about this item

How does the 17.3" Precision 7730 handle heat and noise when the i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 run at full load all day?

The Precision 7730 chassis is built for sustained mobile-workstation workloads; its thermal design targets the 6-core CPU and 6 GB GDDR5 GPU so the system stays stable during long render or CAD sessions.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on this 7730?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port, an HDMI 2.0 cable for external 4K displays, and standard USB-A 3.0 cables for the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports.

Will the Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 drive my older 1080p monitors and legacy USB 3.0 dock without adapters?

Yes — HDMI 2.0 and the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports connect directly to 1080p screens and USB 3.0 docks; the Thunderbolt 3 port works with legacy USB-C devices at USB speeds.
