Precision 7730/7740 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730/7740 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It carries 64 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. A dedicated Nvidia Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB GDDR5 memory drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS display. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

FHD 17.3-inch IPS panel and connectivity

The 17.3-inch FHD panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution with 72% colour gamut coverage. Video output runs through one HDMI 2.0 port and Thunderbolt 3. Data ports include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A connectors. The Thunderbolt 3 interface also supports power delivery and DisplayPort alternate mode for external monitors.

Check RAM ceiling and storage headroom

The system ships with 64 GB DDR4; the platform supports up to 128 GB total, so verify whether your workflow needs the extra headroom before ordering. The single 128 GB NVMe drive leaves the second M.2 slot free for expansion, but confirm the physical keying matches your chosen drive. Buyers who want more storage or a higher refresh panel should look at other configurations.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 128 GB SSD or look for a larger capacity like 256 GB or 512 GB?

The 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD boots Windows 10 Pro quickly and holds core applications, but project files and large datasets will fill it fast; a 256 GB or 512 GB drive gives more breathing room without changing the laptop.

What does the 4.10 GHz turbo figure actually deliver when the i7-8750H is inside the 7730 chassis?

The six-core i7-8750H can hit 4.10 GHz on one or two cores for short bursts, but sustained all-core speeds settle lower once the thermal limits of the 17.3 inch workstation are reached.

What does the single Thunderbolt 3 port cap at for external displays and storage?

Thunderbolt 3 provides up to 40 Gbps bandwidth, letting you drive two 4K 60 Hz monitors or one 5K panel and connect NVMe RAID arrays at near-internal speeds.
