A dual-processor tower workstation with 16 GB DDR4 memory, RTX 4000 graphics, 512 GB NVMe SSD and 16 TB HDD storage for CAD and 3D rendering
This hard-drive adapter is built for the Dell Precision T7820 tower workstation. It enables storage expansion inside a chassis that already runs dual Xeon Gold 6244 processors at 3.6 GHz and an RTX 4000 graphics card. The part suits engineers and CAD professionals who need to add drives without replacing the 950 W power supply or the Windows 11 Pro installation.
The T7820 provides four internal bays that accept 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch drives using SATA or SAS connections, plus an M.2 slot for NVMe devices. Total memory slots reach 12, but storage lanes are shared with PCIe expansion, so adding multiple high-speed drives can reduce bandwidth available for the RTX 4000 or RAID cards. Boot drive must reside on a supported controller.
The tower uses a tool-less design so the adapter slides into a bay and locks without screws. Common issues include forgetting to seat the power and data cables firmly, which causes the drive to disappear under load, and exceeding the 950 W budget when several mechanical drives spin up together. Check that the BIOS recognises the new device before loading Windows 11 Pro.

The 512GB SSD M.2 provides fast access for active CAD projects and the operating system, while the 16TB HDD adds high-capacity storage for large project archives, media libraries, and backups.
The 3.60GHz base frequency on two Xeon Gold 6244 processors delivers strong single-thread speed for interactive CAD work and high multi-core throughput for CPU-based rendering, simulation, and virtualization workloads.
The RTX 4000 connects via PCIe slots, providing full-length, full-height GPU support for professional 3D visualization, rendering, and GPU-accelerated applications; NVMe is used by the 512GB SSD for storage speed.
