Compatible Dell Studio models

This 14-inch LCD ribbon cable is built for Dell Studio 1457 and 1458 laptops equipped with a WXGAHD panel. It also fits the Studio 1450 when that model uses the same screen specification. The part carries Dell number FX738 for easy cross-reference.

Resolution constraint

The cable supports only the 1366 x 768 WXGAHD resolution; it will not work with higher or lower resolution screens installed in the same chassis. Buyers who need a cable for a different panel resolution must source the correct alternative part.

Direct replacement function

Installing this ribbon restores the video link between the motherboard and the display assembly without requiring additional drivers or software. It replaces a damaged or worn original cable so the laptop screen functions as intended.

Questions about this item

How do I route the FX738 ribbon cable through the hinge of my Studio 1457 without pinching it?

Remove the bezel and keyboard, thread the cable along the original path, and avoid sharp bends near the hinge brackets.

Will the FX738 cable degrade if I open and close my Studio 1458 lid daily?

Repeated flexing at the hinge can fatigue the conductors; replace the cable if flickering or lines appear on the 1366 x 768 panel.

What is the first sign that the FX738 ribbon is failing under constant use?

Intermittent video loss or colour distortion on the WXGAHD screen usually appears before a complete signal break.
