Compact desktop for everyday work

The ECS LIVA Z Plus is a mini PC powered by a 7th Gen Intel Core i5-7200U dual-core processor with 3 MB Smart Cache and a base frequency of 2.70 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 SODIMM memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 drives video through HDMI and mini DisplayPort outputs. The system runs Windows 10 Pro and includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Gigabit Ethernet.

Who this suits and who it does not

This configuration suits offices, classrooms or home desks that need a quiet, space-saving Windows machine for web apps, document editing and 1080p video playback. Buyers who need discrete graphics for gaming, 3D rendering or multi-monitor 4K workflows should look elsewhere. The dual-core CPU and integrated GPU also limit performance for heavy multitasking, virtualisation or compile workloads.

Deciding specification — 64 GB DDR4 memory

The 64 GB DDR4 SODIMM capacity is the single figure that determines whether this unit fits the workload. It allows dozens of browser tabs, large spreadsheets and light virtual machines to run simultaneously without paging. If the intended use requires more memory than this, the soldered-in maximum has been reached and a different platform is needed.

Questions about this item

How loud does the 65W mini PC get when it runs all day?

The 65W power supply and dual-core CPU keep heat modest; the small chassis uses a quiet fan that stays low at typical desktop loads.

What display cable do I need for the mini DisplayPort output?

You need a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort or HDMI cable; the unit includes HDMI and mini DisplayPort but no cables.

Will my existing DDR4 SODIMM sticks work if I want to expand the 64GB memory?

The board takes DDR4 SODIMM modules; the 64GB already installed fills both slots, so adding more would require replacing them.
