What it is

The Edifier R1700BTs is a pair of active bookshelf speakers finished in brown wood. Each cabinet contains a 19mm silk dome tweeter and a 4 inch woofer driven by a built-in amplifier rated at 66 watts of continuous undistorted power. Bluetooth 5.0 with Qualcomm aptX and dual RCA inputs allow wireless and wired connections to phones, computers, televisions and other audio sources. A wireless remote and side-panel controls adjust volume, bass, treble and input selection.

Thermals noise and power

The speakers draw power from an AC adapter or DC supply with a maximum output rating of 18 watts. Because the amplifiers are integrated into the enclosures, no external receiver is required and the system runs silently when idle. The wooden cabinets help dampen resonance during playback at typical near-field listening levels.

What the extras change

A sub-out port lets you connect an external subwoofer for deeper low-frequency extension beyond the 27Hz lower limit. The included wireless remote provides convenient control of mute, input switching and tone adjustments from across the room. Dual RCA inputs accept two wired sources simultaneously so you can leave a computer and a turntable connected without swapping cables.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the R1700BTs to my computer using the wired inputs?

Plug a standard RCA cable into the AUX IN or PC IN RCA sockets on the rear of the active speaker; the second speaker connects with the supplied speaker wire.

What part will need attention or replacement after extended use?

The 19 mm silk dome tweeter and 4 inch woofer are the only moving components; the internal amplifier has no user-serviceable parts.

What limit appears first when the speakers run at high volume for a long period?

The 66 W continuous undistorted power rating is the ceiling before clipping or thermal protection engages.
