3.5" and 2.5" Drive to 5.25" Bay Adapter

This mounting bracket lets you install a 3.5" internal device, a 3.5" hard drive or a 2.5" SSD or hard drive into a standard 5.25" drive bay. The tray is constructed from plastic and secures a single drive in the larger bay opening. It provides a simple mechanical conversion for cases that lack smaller internal mount points.

Front USB 3.0 ports for external access

Two USB 3.0 Type-A ports on the front panel deliver up to 5 Gb/s data rates and remain compatible with USB 2.0 devices at 480 Mb/s. An 80 cm cable connects the ports to a 20-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard, so the feature only works on boards that provide that header. Builders without a spare 20-pin header cannot use the front ports.

Requires motherboard 20-pin USB 3.0 header

The adapter's front USB ports need a 20-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard to function. If your board lacks this specific header, the drive mounting still works but the front ports will remain inactive. Check your motherboard specification for a 20-pin USB 3.0 header before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the adapter and its two front USB 3.0 ports are working after installation?

Mount a 3.5" or 2.5" drive, connect the 80 cm cable to a 20-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard, power on the PC, then verify the drive and any plugged-in USB device appear in the operating system at up to 5 Gb/s.

What comes in the box and what must I supply separately?

The package includes the plastic 5.25" bay tray with two front USB 3.0 Type-A ports and the 80 cm internal cable ending in a 20-pin USB 3.0 header; you must provide a motherboard with a free 20-pin USB 3.0 header and the 3.5" or 2.5" drive you wish to install.

Which version should I choose for a 3.5" HDD versus a 2.5" SSD?

This single adapter supports both form factors — it accepts one 3.5" device or 3.5" HDD or one 2.5" SSD/HDD — so no separate version is needed; just ensure your motherboard has the required 20-pin USB 3.0 header.
