Pack of ten 20×20×0.5 mm copper shims rated at 401 W/mK for CPU, GPU, RAM and BGA chip cooling in laptops and consoles
These 20 mm square copper shims measure 0.5 mm thick and come in a pack of 10. They are intended for DIY thermal management on laptop CPUs, GPUs and memory chips as well as on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, 3 and 4 consoles.
Each shim offers a rated thermal conductivity of 401 W/m·K, far above the 20 to 30 W/m·K of ordinary copper, so it moves heat quickly from a BGA die to a heatsink. The 0.5 mm thickness provides a thin, compliant interface but cannot replace a full heatsink assembly for sustained high-power loads.
The shims sit directly on bare die surfaces and require a mounting solution that maintains even pressure without damaging the package. They free the builder from relying on aged thermal paste or pads that degrade over time, yet they need a separate cooler or heat spreader to dissipate the transferred heat.

Each shim measures 20 mm by 20 mm by 0.5 mm, so it adds only half a millimetre of height; verify your cooler’s spring tension can accommodate that extra gap before installing.
Monitor CPU or GPU temperatures under load; a noticeable drop compared with the previous thermal pad indicates the 401 W/m·K copper is conducting heat into the heatsink as intended.
The lot contains only the ten copper shims; thermal compound or adhesive tape is not included and must be purchased separately.
