Converts a SATA-based M.2 2230, 2242, 2260 or 2280 SSD into a 2.5" SATA 3.0 drive with an open-frame bracket for heat dissipation
The EN-Labs M2NGFF25SATABR converts a SATA-bus M.2 NGFF SSD into a 2.5in SATA 3.0 6Gbps drive. It accepts B key and B+M key modules in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. The open-frame metal bracket aids heat dissipation. It does not support PCIe-based M key or M+B key NVME SSDs such as Samsung 950, 960 or 961 models.
The adapter has no active cooling, so it adds no fan noise to the system. The open-frame metal bracket acts as a passive heatsink for the M.2 module. Power draw is limited to the SSD itself, with no extra circuitry overhead. Reduced overall power consumption is noted compared to mechanical drives.
Under continuous read or write workloads the metal bracket spreads heat from the SSD controller and NAND. The SATA 3.0 6Gbps interface caps maximum throughput, so sustained speeds follow the drive's own SATA limits. Throttling risk depends on the installed SSD and chassis airflow, not on the adapter itself. Builders needing NVME support or a second M.2 slot cannot use this product.

Insert the SSD at an angle into the B-key or B+M-key slot, secure it with the screw, then attach the metal bracket before sliding the assembly into the 2.5" bay; the step often missed is fastening the bracket screws.
The adapter itself has no moving parts and requires no maintenance; only the installed M.2 SATA SSD may eventually wear out and need replacement.
The SATA 3.0 6 Gbps interface caps maximum throughput, so sustained transfers cannot exceed that bandwidth regardless of the SSD's own speed.
