Adapts M-key M.2 NVMe or AHCI SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes to a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot with included bracket
This EN-Labs adapter lets you install an M-key M.2 NVMe or AHCI SSD into a standard PCIe 3.0 x4, x8, or x16 slot. It accepts drive lengths of 30, 42, 60, and 80 mm, covering 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 form factors. The card is backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0 and 1.0 motherboards and works with Windows and Linux without extra drivers. Builders who need to add a B-key SATA or PCIe x2 M.2 drive cannot use this adapter.
The adapter draws power solely from the PCIe slot and has no active cooling, so it adds no fan noise and negligible thermal load to the system. Power consumption is limited to the SSD itself and the passive PCB traces. No external power connectors are required, and the card does not increase case airflow demands. Users who want active cooling or a heatsink for sustained heavy write workloads must provide their own solution.
Included in the package are the adapter card, a full-profile PCI slot cover, mounting screws, and a small screwdriver. The bracket secures the card to a standard chassis cut-out, and the screws fasten the M.2 drive at the appropriate standoff for each supported length. No software, cables, or drive-cloning utilities are bundled. Buyers who need a low-profile bracket for slim cases or additional mounting hardware for multiple drives must source those separately.

Insert the M-key M.2 NVMe or AHCI SSD (2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280) into the adapter's slot at an angle, then secure it with the supplied screw. The step often missed is fastening the adapter's full-profile bracket to the chassis with a case screw so the card stays firmly seated in the PCIe x4, x8, or x16 slot.
The adapter is a passive PCIe 3.0 x4 to M.2 carrier with no active components, so it requires no scheduled maintenance. Replacement is only necessary if the gold edge contacts are damaged or the mounting bracket is bent, preventing secure installation in the motherboard slot.
The bottleneck is the PCIe 3.0 x4 host interface, which caps sequential throughput at the bus maximum. The adapter itself adds no active cooling, so the attached M.2 SSD (2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280) may hit its own thermal throttle point before the link saturates.
