Connects a 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD to a USB 3.0 port with UASP support and a reserved USB 2.0 power cable
This adapter connects a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive or solid-state drive to a USB 3.0 Type-A port. It uses the ASMT1053e chipset and a 22-pin SATA connector. Power is drawn from the USB 3.0 bus with an extra USB 2.0 plug reserved for additional current when a drive demands it. The six-inch cable keeps the setup compact for mobile use.
It suits users who want to access a 2.5 inch SATA drive on a laptop or desktop without an external power brick. The supplementary USB 2.0 header feeds extra current to drives that exceed the single port limit. It does not work with 3.5 inch drives because they require 12 V power which the host cannot supply. Builders needing to connect larger desktop drives should look at a different solution.
The adapter supports SATA III 6 Gbps, SATA II 3 Gbps and SATA I 1.5 Gbps devices. USB 3.0 caps the practical throughput at 5 Gbps, so the fastest SATA SSDs will hit that ceiling. UASP is supported for lower overhead when the host controller also implements it. Drives with higher sustained transfer requirements will be limited by the USB 3.0 link.

No, the adapter draws power from the host USB 3.0 port, and an extra USB 2.0 connector is included for drives that need more current.
Yes, the adapter supports SATA III 6 Gbps, SATA II 3 Gbps and SATA I 1.5 Gbps drives, so a SATA II drive runs at its native rate.
Check Device Manager or System Information; the drive should appear under an ASMT1053e UASP controller rather than a standard USB mass-storage driver.
