What it does and who needs it

The ESTONE HY-5001 extracts audio from an HDMI source and sends it to separate optical Toslink and RCA stereo outputs while passing the video signal onward. It suits anyone connecting a Blu-ray player, games console or streaming stick to a display that lacks audio outputs or to an older amplifier without HDMI inputs.

Replaces direct HDMI audio when the display cannot

Use this extractor when your TV or projector only accepts stereo PCM but the source outputs multichannel sound, or when you need to feed a legacy AV receiver that has only optical or analogue inputs. The jump is worth it if you hear missing channels, downmix artefacts or get no sound at all from the current direct connection.

Plug in power, connect cables, select the audio mode

Installation needs only the supplied 5 V adapter, an HDMI cable from the source and the desired audio cables to your sound system. A three-position switch chooses Pass-through, 2.0 CH or 5.1 CH; the most common issue is leaving the switch on Pass-through when the downstream device cannot handle the source’s native format, which results in silence or noise.
