What this extractor does

The ESTONE HY-5001 takes a single HDMI source and splits the signal into a passthrough HDMI output plus separate audio paths. It provides an optical Toslink SPDIF connection and stereo RCA outputs for external sound systems. The unit is aimed at installers who need to feed audio to a receiver or soundbar while keeping the video on a display.

Video and audio limits

The box accepts 4K signals at 30 Hz and passes Full HD 1080p at higher rates. Maximum supported resolution is listed as 1920 x 1080. Audio can be set to PASS, 2.0CH or 5.1CH modes to match the connected equipment. No higher refresh rates or resolutions beyond 1080p are supported.

Installation notes

Connect the source to the HDMI input, the display to the HDMI output, and the audio gear to Toslink or RCA. A 5 V power adapter is included and must be used. The short 5 inch cable keeps the setup compact but limits placement distance. Ensure the audio mode switch matches your speaker configuration to avoid silent channels.

Questions about this item

What does 4K at 30 Hz actually deliver on a display?

The extractor passes video up to 1920 x 1080 resolution, so a 4K source is down-scaled to Full HD on the HDMI output while audio is separated.

Which audio formats can the optical and RCA outputs carry?

Three selectable modes — PASS, 2.0CH stereo or 5.1CH surround — send the chosen format to both the Toslink SPDIF and the RCA L/R ports simultaneously.

How much space and power does the unit need to install?

The black box measures about 5 in. long, draws power from the included 5 V adapter, and connects via one HDMI input and four Toslink outputs.
