The ESTONE OZHL2 converts digital audio from optical, coaxial or USB sources into stereo analogue signals. It accepts PCM and LPCM streams at sampling rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 96 and 192KHz with 24-bit depth. Outputs are provided via RCA left and right sockets plus a 3.5mm jack. A built-in headphone amplifier delivers 125mW per channel into 32 ohms and supports headphones from 32 to 600 ohms. Power is supplied through the included USB cable and an infrared remote selects the active input.

Replaces direct digital connections to analogue gear

Use this unit when your source device only offers optical, coaxial or USB digital outputs but your amplifier, powered speakers or headphones require analogue RCA or 3.5mm inputs. The upgrade is worthwhile whenever the source cannot be set to PCM or LPCM output, because the converter cannot decode bitstream formats such as Dolby Digital or DTS. It also adds a dedicated headphone amplifier with volume control via the remote, which many source devices lack.

Limited to PCM and LPCM input formats

The optical and coaxial inputs only accept two-channel PCM or LPCM audio; multi-channel bitstreams will produce no sound or noise. The USB input is for PC audio streaming only and does not support playback from USB storage devices. Sampling rates above 192KHz are not accepted. The headphone amplifier is rated at 125mW per channel into 32 ohms, so very low-sensitivity or high-impedance headphones above 600 ohms may not reach desired volume levels.
