Purpose and audience

This ESTONE cable connects USB-C and Thunderbolt devices with a .5 metre length. It suits professionals moving large media libraries between workstations and high-speed storage arrays. The 40 Gbps rating matches USB4 and Thunderbolt specifications. Buyers needing longer runs for desk-to-rack setups should look elsewhere.

Build and daily use

Aluminium alloy shells and a nylon-braided jacket resist wear from frequent plugging. Male-to-male USB-C connectors seat firmly in laptop, dock and monitor ports. The 240 W PD 3.1 rating delivers 48 V at 5 A for power-hungry laptops and peripherals. Grey colour keeps cable runs visually neutral in studio environments.

Deciding specification

Certified 40 Gbps data throughput determines whether this cable saturates your fastest SSD or raid enclosure. Lower-rated cables will bottleneck transfer speeds even if the connectors fit. Verify that your host and device both support the full bandwidth before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What does the 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 4 limit mean for real-world transfers?

The cable carries up to 40 Gb/s under the USB4.0 standard and is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.2, 3.1, 3.0 and 2.0, so the actual speed will match the slowest port in the chain.

What physical clearance does the .5 m cable need?

It is a .5 m (1.64 ft) male-to-male USB-C to USB-C cable with an aluminium-alloy shell and nylon-braided jacket, so allow enough space for the connector bodies and the minimum bend radius of the braid.

How do I get 8K@60 Hz video from this cable?

Plug it into a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode; the cable then drives one 8K@60 Hz or dual 4K@60 Hz displays.
