Universal Edge Switch with 24 Copper Ports

The Extreme Networks 5420F-24T-4XE is a managed Layer 2/3 switch built for enterprise access layers. It provides 24 RJ-45 ports operating at 10/100/1000 Mbps and four 1/10Gb SFP+ uplinks, all MACsec-capable. Dual-personality hardware lets you boot either Switch Engine (EXOS) or Fabric Engine (VOSS) on the same chassis.

Ideal for Wired Access, Not Fibre Downlinks

This model suits organisations that need high-density copper connectivity with 10Gb uplinks and cloud-managed provisioning via ExtremeCloud IQ. It is not suited for deployments requiring fibre downlink ports or environments needing 25Gb uplink speeds. Stacking supports up to eight units using the two SFP-DD ports.

208 Gbps Aggregated Bandwidth Decides Fit

The switch delivers 208 Gbps of aggregated bandwidth and a frame forwarding rate of 154.8 Mpps across its 24 copper ports and four SFP+ uplinks. If your design demands higher aggregate throughput or 25Gb interfaces, a different chassis is required.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 24-port 1G copper model or the 24-port SFP fibre model?

The 5420F-24T-4XE provides 24 RJ-45 ports at 10/100/1000 Mbps; the 5420F-24S-4XE swaps those for 24 SFP cages. Pick copper for direct device links, fibre for longer runs or existing SFP infrastructure.

What does the 208 Gbps aggregated bandwidth mean for daily traffic?

It is the total switching fabric capacity. With 24 active 1 Gbps ports plus four 10 Gbps uplinks the switch can forward up to 154.8 Mpps wire-speed without blocking.

What do the four SFP+ uplink ports and two SFP-DD stacking ports actually support?

Four SFP+ cages accept 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps transceivers for uplinks. Two SFP-DD ports handle 20 Gbps stacking links when running Switch Engine, using qualified direct-attach cables or optics.
