Managed 24‑port switch with eight 90 W and sixteen 30 W PoE ports plus four SFP+ uplinks, 480 W PoE budget from a single 660 W PSU
The Extreme Networks 5420F-8W-16P-4XE is a managed edge switch that delivers 24 copper ports and four SFP+ uplinks for 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps connectivity. Eight ports supply up to 90 W each under 802.3bt while sixteen ports provide up to 30 W each under 802.3at, supporting dense wireless access point and camera deployments. The unit includes a fixed 660 W internal power supply and runs Switch Engine or Fabric Engine selectable at boot.
With the single internal 660 W PSU the total PoE budget is 480 W, allowing a mix of high-power and standard devices without external injectors. The 1U chassis measures 43.7 mm high, 441.0 mm wide and 287.02 mm deep, weighing 4.64 kg, and uses internal fans that ramp speed based on inlet temperature and PoE load. MACsec-capable hardware encryption on all copper ports adds no measurable latency or acoustic impact in typical office environments.
Adding the recommended secondary power supply raises the PoE budget to 960 W so every 90 W and 30 W port can operate at its maximum simultaneously for continuous high-density deployments. The switch fabric provides 208 Gbps aggregated bandwidth and a 154.8 Mpps forwarding rate, maintaining line-rate performance across all active ports during prolonged traffic bursts. Stacking via two built-in SFP-DD ports supports up to eight units with qualified direct-attach cables for unified management.

Other versions of this model
Rack-mount the 441.0 mm wide chassis using the supplied brackets, connect the fixed 660 W AC supply, then attach the recommended secondary PSU to reach the 960 W PoE budget; the secondary PSU is the step most often skipped.
The internal fans and the fixed 660 W AC power supply are the only field-replaceable components; plan to swap a fan module if airflow noise rises or the PSU if redundancy is lost.
With a single PSU the PoE budget caps at 480 W across the 8×90 W and 16×30 W ports, so high-power devices will hit that ceiling before the 154.8 Mpps forwarding rate or 208 Gbps bandwidth are reached.
